Framing
Framing Guidance
Framing your artwork is the final touch that transforms it into a true statement piece for your home. The right frame doesn’t just protect the work - it enhances its character, complements your space, and makes the piece feel complete.
Whether you’ve chosen a fine art print or a canvas, this guide will walk you through the options available and provide recommendations to ensure your artwork is beautifully presented.
Framing for Fine Art Prints
Borders
All fine art prints are produced with a white border, typically 5cm on each side, designed to make framing easier and to give the artwork breathing space. Borders may vary slightly depending on the proportions of the print and paper.
Glass Size vs Paper Size
Print sizes are based on the approximate glass size — the visible area of the artwork once framed. The overall paper size will be slightly larger due to the added border. [Insert diagram or image here]
Mounts
Mounts are available for prints up to 100x80cm, adding depth and a sense of space around the artwork. For larger prints, mounts are not recommended as they can become unstable and bulky; instead, these pieces are supplied unmounted for a clean, professional finish.
Frame Widths
All frames are available in widths up to 35mm. This additional width will extend beyond the listed glass size shown on the website, so the final outer dimensions will be slightly larger once framed.
Glazing
All frames use high-quality acrylic glazing, up to 3mm thick. Acrylic offers the clarity of glass but is lighter and shatter-resistant, making it a safer and more durable choice for artwork.
Frame Types
- Black flat frame – 34mm wide, 15mm deep
- White flat frame – 33mm wide, 13mm deep
- Oak veneer frame – 34mm wide, 20mm deep
- Gold flat frame – 33mm wide, 13mm deep
- Silver flat frame – 33mm wide, 13mm deep
- Pale grey flat frame – 28mm wide, 22mm deep
Protection Tips
For longevity, I recommend avoiding direct sunlight and damp environments
Framing for Canvas
Frame Style – Floater Frames
All canvases are framed exclusively in floater frames. This premium style creates the illusion of the artwork “floating” within the frame, leaving a subtle shadow gap around the edges that enhances depth and texture. Floater frames are a contemporary gallery-style standard, chosen to elevate the artwork without overpowering it.
Considerations
The frame is selected to fit the stretcher bar depth of each canvas, ensuring a perfect finish. Frame colours are curated to complement the tones and textures of the artwork, offering a timeless presentation that works in a variety of interiors.
I’ve listed a selection of canvas frames that elevate the artwork without overpowering it.
- Black
- White
- Light grey
- Dark grey
- Gold
- Silver
- Dark wood
- Natural wood
FAQs
Can I frame the artwork myself?
Yes - custom frame sizes work with many of our prints, though we recommend professional framing for the best finish.
Do frames come ready to hang?
Yes, all frames ordered are delivered ready to hang.
Do I need special glass?
All frames use acrylic glazing rather than traditional glass. Acrylic is lighter, shatter-resistant, and protects the artwork while offering the same clarity.
How do I care for framed artwork?
Avoid placing artwork in direct sunlight or humid environments, and gently dust frames with a soft cloth.
